Vishnupuram Award to be presented to Writer Raj Gouthaman!

The award event is happening in Coimbatore!

Mr. Raj Gouthaman, an eminent novelist and a researcher in Tamil literature has been announced as the recipient of the Vishunpuram award for the year of 2018. The award will be presented to the writer on the eve of the award festival to be held on Sunday, the 23rd day of December 2018 in Coimbatore.

Vishnupuram Award is bestowed every year to honor the deserving senior Tamil writer since its inception in the year of 2010. Coimbatore being its headquarters, the Vishnupuram Ilakkiya vattam, on its behalf offers a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.1, 00,000 to the award recipient.

The special guests and speakers invited to preside this year’s award event are Anita Agnihotri, an Indian Bengali writer and civil servant, Madhupal, Malayalam writer and filmmaker, the Tamil writers Jeyamohan, Devibharathi, Stalin Rajangam and Suneel Krishnan.
The documentary film, “Paattum Thogaiyum” made on the writer Raj Gouthaman directed by K.P.Vinoth will be played during the occasion. A book on a collection of articles by various literary critics on Raj Gouthaman’s writing and his contribution to the Tamil literature will also be released on the function.

Professor Raj Gouthaman:

Raj Gauthaman is the pseudonym of S. Pushparaj. He was born on 1950 in Puthuppatti near Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu. He graduated with Bachelor of Science in Zoology from St. Xaviers College in Palyankottai. Later, he pursued postgraduate studies in Tamil literature and obtained master’s degree in Sociology from Annamalai University. His doctoral research was on A. Madahavayya. He was a professor on Tamil literature in Pondicherry government colleges. He is now living in Tirunelveli after his retirement. Raj Gauthaman has written three novels, Siluvairaj sarithiriam, Kaalachchumai and Londonil Siluvairaj.

He has written several books including Dalit paarvaiyil tamil panbaadu, Ka.Ayyodidasar aaivugal, Aram Adhigaram, Kanmoodivazhakkamellam Manmoodi poga, Aakol poosalum perungkarkaala nagarigamum, Aarambakatta mudalaaliyamum thamizh samooga maatramum, Sundara Ramasamy : Karuththum Kalaiyum, Pathitruppaththu Aingurunooru: Sila Avathaanippugal, Pudhumaippiththan yennum Brammaraakshaz, Dalitiya vimarsana katturaigal. He was the recipient of several significant awards such as Puthumaipiththan memorial award.
