DRAUPADI KURAVANCHI

SHRADDHA THEATRES, in association with KATTAIKKUTTU SANGAM, presents “Draupadi Kuravanji” – a folk theatre adaptation of a hitherto less known episode from the “Virata Parvam” of the Mahabharatha. The episode is set in the liminal moment where the Pandavas are about to come out of their forest-exile and transit into their lives incognito. Duryodhana, with help from the cunning Sakuni, plots to prevent their return to civil society to regain their power and country. DRAUPADI KURAVANCHI tells the tale of Draupadi’s dark quest to subvert the plans of Duryodhana, Sakuni and the Kauravas.

The KATTAIKKUTTU SANGAM is a social mission-driven, grassroots performing arts organization that uses the integration of academic education and performing arts training to promote, contemporize and make sustainable the unique folk theatre form of Northern Tamil Nadu—Kattaikkuttu. Draupadhi Kuravanji is directed by Perunkattur P. Rajagopal.

These shows are a joint effort by Shraddha Theatres and Kattaikkuttu Sangam to present this traditional folk art form to the urban Chennai audience.
